Best Company’s VP of Marketing, Justin Ashby, sat down with George Baseluos, CEO of Alleviate Tax, about what Alleviate Tax has done to stand out in a competitive industry.

During the podcast, George mentioned that, because Alleviate Tax provides services to both individuals and business owners, the company sees many different levels of tax debt.
“Mostly it starts when the customer starts getting letters from the IRS and they’re just unaware. They’re like ‘where did this come from?’...We file and prep all sorts of back taxes, current taxes. Resolution is only part of it. I would say, generally, it’s $10,000 or more, but we see a lot of small business owners that have six-figure tax debts. So, we kind of see it all across the spectrum.”
When Justin asked George what customer acquisition looks like for Alleviate Tax, George mentioned that the company tends to get frequent referrals from happy clients.
“It's funny, we get a lot of referrals all the time from clients that were very happy with our services, that we have quickly and efficiently filed their back taxes and got kind of a resolution down with regards to the bounce.”
He also explained, however, that while the company naturally gets referrals, digital marketing has been the largest focus due to the nature of the industry.
“Referrals are not a big part of our marketing portfolio because when you owe taxes, as you said, you're generally not talking to people about it. Most people keep that stuff (tax debt) very tight lip. Almost everybody will talk about credit card debt, maybe student loan debt. It's less taboo. But owing money to the government, for whatever reason, people don't like to talk about that.”
“Digital is probably the majority of our strategy, Google PPC, affiliate marketers…it’s a very competitive space and it's difficult…We're going up against significantly bigger companies with deeper pockets, more money, and some lesser-known companies that are just trying to get any and all clients through the door that they can. So, it's kind of a mixed bag.”
